For a final project in a Textiles class, I decided to use copper wire in a braiding technique similar to chicken wire . I then used photo references to make a male figure in a crouched. This piece has great volume made by the negitive space the wire makes of the form.

I chose to make a social statement with my piece. I wanted to focus on the clear aspect of the plastic and tape and what that could portray in a human form. Given that homelessness was a huge problem before the pandemic and has only gotten worse afterward, I wanted to show how an individual gets looked over and becomes invisible when they are homeless.

The goal of this project was that the viewer would know where the parts were taken from. I walked miles along the railroad and gathered hundreds of pounds of iron for this sculpture.

I wanted to make an icon of the western expansion of man using the railroad. How the Native Americans saw this iron beast slowly crawling across the landscape.
